Queen of Tarts
31 May
Cool name, lots of random kitchen paraphenalia, a courtyard and a kick ass cookbook. Sounds like just the type of place that I would love. Funky it was but the food was very disappointing. We ventured out to this far corner of Observatory for a lazy Saturday breakfast of french toast and flapjacks… mmm nothing wrong with a little decadence. The french toast is served with camembert and roast tomatoes. I thought it sounded interesting so I gave it a try. The french toast itself was ok but there is a reason you don’t see it combined with camembert very often. It just doesn’t work. It especially doesn’t work with a thick disk of unripe camembert. The flapjacks were big and fluffy but served with a few untoasted almonds and some green bananas. The service was friendly but no questions were asked when I left over half of my french toast delight untouched. We probably should have stuck to the tarts. .. Or to the Real Cheese next door : )
